`path()` has been available in Chrome/Opera since its introduction with what became `offset-path`... but it is not available to `clip-path`, as of Chrome 71. Firefox, while working on its Offset Path implementation, appears to have introduced support for `clip-path: path()` behind a flag in version 63. The setting is `layout.css.clip-path-path.enabled`
